Craniosacral Therapy & Gentle Release Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle non-invasive therapy working with the natural rhythms and systems of the body.

With foundations from osteopathy, the therapy uses light touch over various points on the body, listening to what it needs to release tension. These tensions can build up in our body due to traumas, injury, stress and illness at any time in life.

CST supports your body’s innate ability to balance and restore its vitality and health by allowing the body and mind to rest deeply.

Treatment is both calming and energising and promotes a sense of wellbeing.

It is a treatment suitable for everyone in all stages of life, from new born babies to elderly adults and is helpful working with many conditions, injuries and emotions.

Adults Craniosacral Therapy

CST is helpful with many ailments and conditions and also beneficial for traumas and PTSD by helping the body let go of holding patterns stored.

It can be an effective support for anxiety and stress by supporting the central nervous system and helping with vagus nerve stimulation, which has such calming effects.

Baby Craniosacral Therapy

CST can be very helpful for babies, especially for new borns if their birth was difficult and/or they seem unsettled.

If their head shape looks unusual or they prefer to turn to one side, CST can help gently with realignment.

It is also beneficial helping with feeding issues, reflux, colic, wind and possible tongue ties.

Dental Related Craniosacral Therapy

I was a practicing dentist for over 20 years. With this knowledge and experience, I can help with dental related conditions supporting you and also liaising with your dentist when needed.

CST can be helpful particularly supporting facial pain management, orthodontic work, post surgery or trauma and during ongoing dental treatment.

What to expect

A typical session is around an hour, although your initial appointment with a consultation is longer.

Fully clothed and comfortably lying on a couch, the treatment involves gentle touch over areas of the body, mostly working with areas associated with the spine and the head.

The treatment is lead by your body and areas that need to relax and release tension to make the changes it needs to heal. Because your body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur.

How does it feel?

There can be many experiences felt during your treatment, although most commonly people report feeling calmer and having a sense of release.

Examples of feeling release can be lots of stomach gurgles and tingles. You may see colours and be aware of the slowing of your breathing and a feeling of relaxation.

Different emotions may come up and also memories of past events.

Your body is usually quite still during treatment, but you also may experience movements as the body releases tension.

Whatever you experience is what your body needs and treatment is always completed at an appropriate time when you are settled and relaxed.

What is Gentle Release Therapy?

It’s a gentle treatment working with energy release and is based on the principles of acupressure and Traditional Chinese medicine. (TCM)

Working on areas of the body, mostly the abdomen and head I listen to what needs releasing and emotions and patterns in the body that come up.

Our bodies and minds hold onto so much stress which can be what’s currently stressing you but also a lifetime of held stress and emotions.

An example is that the lungs in TCM hold onto our grief and anxiety. If you find yourself waking at 3-5am feeling anxious and breathless this could be a reason as this is the time in the Chinese clock for the lungs.

Gentle release therapy can help to release this energy and help you to relax and destress.

Gentle Release Therapy inspired me to discover more about energy release in the body, hence going on to train as a craniosacral therapist. I often find that my treatment sessions work fluidly with a combination of these techniques.

Come and try these treatments and see what your body wants to release. Have some time to relax and release that stress……

Typical Treatment Sessions

Treatment sessions tend to be 60-90 minutes and are couch based.

For any of the treatments provided, I would recommend to come along wearing with loose, comfortable clothing. If you are having any facial treatment, it is best to come along make up free and remove earrings and necklaces ahead.

Single appointments are available to aid general wellbeing. I would usually advise a course of treatments (approximately four sessions) to help with particular conditions. Long term you may find that 4-8 week sessions booked are a lovely relaxing way to continue your wellbeing journey.

Your first visit includes an initial consultation to see what you hope to achieve from the treatment chosen and assess any medical conditions and lifestyle factors you may have. This to help plan the best treatment for you. All information will be kept confidential.
