Reflexology to Restore, Relax and Revitalise.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non invasive therapy which involves massage and pressure techniques using the thumbs and fingers on the reflex areas found in the feet and hands. It is based on the principle that reflexes in the feet and hands and face correspond to each organ and structure in the body. These reflexes are like ‘mini maps’ of the body and are linked to those organs by energy channels, zones or meridians.

Potential Benefits

As well as being relaxing, reflexology can help with many health conditions by encouraging the body to heal itself. It is also very helpful in pregnancy at any stage. If this applies to you then please feel free to contact me, as I may very well be able to help. Click here to learn more about some of the conditions reflexology can help with.

Health

When illness occurs in the body, the corresponding energy channels become blocked, and reflexology is applied to help the body to remove these blockages, allowing the energy to flow freely again, so restoring the body's natural balance and good health. It is a wonderfully relaxing holistic treatment.

Reflexology can be used to help treat many conditions including:

Digestive disorders e.g. IBS

Migraine / headaches

Joint / back pain

PMS (premenstrual syndrome)

Sleep disorders

Menopause

Pregnancy - helping with conception, during pregnancy and in the late stages from 37 weeks to get ready for the birth.

Infertility

Sinus problems

Stress related conditions

The History of Reflexology

Reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, and was practised in India and China. The therapy was introduced to the West in 1913 by ear, nose and throat surgeon Dr William Fitzgerald, who developed a system called 'Zone therapy'. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone and used acupuncture needles on the feet to achieve anaesthesia on other areas of the body for surgery.

In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is known as reflexology. Her opinion was that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body and by treating the feet these could be relieved. It has been practiced in the UK since the 1960’s and has become more and more popular and established as a complementary therapy.

Typical Treatment Sessions

Treatment sessions tend to be 60-90 minutes and are couch based.

For any of the treatments provided, I would recommend to come along wearing with loose, comfortable clothing. If you are having any facial treatment, it is best to come along make up free and remove earrings and necklaces ahead.

Single appointments are available to aid general wellbeing. I would usually advise a course of treatments (approximately four sessions) to help with particular conditions. Long term you may find that 4-8 week sessions booked are a lovely relaxing way to continue your wellbeing journey.

Your first visit includes an initial consultation to see what you hope to achieve from the treatment chosen and assess any medical conditions and lifestyle factors you may have. This to help plan the best treatment for you. All information will be kept confidential.
